Review & Pictures by Shaun Troke
Twice now, I’ve stayed at the Apocalypsis Apartments in Psakoudia, Halkidiki.
The first time was in early March, prior to the start of Greece’s peak season; The second time was late September, at the end of Greece’s peak season…
And, both times, this property served as the perfect base.
IN THE LOW SEASON
In March, the beach resort of Psakoudia is limited to what’s open to the public…something I thoroughly enjoyed, in fact!
Only an hour drive from Thessaloniki Airport, if you’re seeking complete quietness & peacefulness, October to April is the perfect time to stay at Apocalypsis Apartments.
I recall the quietness as I drove along the main strip of Psakoudia, where hardly anyone was around, as I pulled up outside the Apocalypsis Apartments, a building of studios, owned by two brothers.
On this visit, I was greeted by the first brother who owns the property: Asterios.
Asterios filled me in with details about the area, while explaining the reason why most of the local businesses are closed this time of year.
While Psakoudia itself may be quiet during the low season, Apocalypsis Apartments is perfectly central in Halkidiki, meaning you can easily visit other parts of this peninsula during the day, and return to this comfortable base at night.
IN THE HIGH SEASON
In September, the high season is coming to a close for the year…
Yet, the crowds are still attracted to Psakoudia.
Unlike the low season, businesses are open, and beaches are full.
And, this time, I was greeted by the other brother who owns the property: Dimitris.
Dimitris & his wife – much like Asterios & his wife – really go out of their way to make sure your stay is stress-free. And, being sea-lovers themselves, they certainly helped recommend what there is to do in Psakoudia this time of year…
The local area surrounding Apocalypsis Apartments is so much different in September compared to March, making it feel more like the beach resort that it’s known to be, leaving you with no reason to leave this area whatsoever…if only for groceries from the nearby supermarket, just a 2min drive away!
IN THE ROOM
I was fortunate enough to stay in the same room during both visits to Apocalypsis Apartments…
The Studio With Sea View.
And, there were reasons why I chose this particular room:
Kitchenette? Check.
Balcony? Check.
View? Check.
The balcony & view are, by far, the most memorable aspects of this room!
Overlooking the beach (reachable with a 2min walk), the Studio With Sea View provides the ultimate views to wake up to…
AND, fall asleep to: As you lay in bed, you can hear the waves of the Aegean Sea crashing against the shore.
This, for me, is the best part about staying in this studio.
Sure, the kitchenette is ever so handy & equipped, and, the clean bathroom constantly supplies hot running water, and, there’s also a Satellite TV available as well…
All of which are equally important, yet you take these for granted when the view & balcony reign over everything else!
Remember, it’s the little things that matter, too.
IN THE BACK
There are two things I didn’t know about until the summer visit: their Laundry Service and their BBQ area.
Apocalypsis Apartments provide a laundry service, something I wasn’t aware of until my second visit. If you’re staying here for more than a week, this laundry service is something worth knowing about…
If you’re a budding chef, then you may want to make use of the BBQ at the rear of the building.
There’s also a patio area allowing you somewhere to eat your own grilled food.
Also out back is an additional parking area, should there by no parking spaces available out front during the peak season.
IN SUMMERY
Apocalypsis Apartments is a lovely, welcoming place to stay.
The brothers & their partners, and, other staff members are all extremely friendly, and they make you feel that their home is also your home, too.
For me, Apocalypsis Apartments is the ideal place for those seeking relaxation…OR, concentration.
As a writer, sitting on the studio balcony with my laptop, looking out to sea, with refreshments accessible in the kitchenette just metres away, this IS the perfect creative environment to work in…
One day, I will return to Apocalypsis Apartments for the third time!
